George holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Carleton University and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Manitoba. George’s passion for architecture comes from the discipline’s inherent nature of being both art and science. As President of Cibinel Architecture Ltd, George brings over 30 years of design, construction and management experience to projects.

Michael Acht MAA MRAIC Partner

Michael joined Cibinel Architecture in 2014 as a Partner of the firm and has been in practice for over 15 years. Michael received his Master of Architecture degree and his Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba. He also completed a Master Foreign Studio at the Technische Universitat Berlin in Germany. In 2005 Michael received the prestigious Prix de Rome in Architecture for Emerging Practitioners.

Michael Robertson MAA MRAIC Partner

Michael joined Cibinel Architecture as Partner and Principal Architect in 2014 and has been in practice for 18 years. Michael received his Master of Architecture degree and his Bachelor Arts, Cultural Anthropology from the University of Manitoba. Michael has developed expertise designing and delivering major capital projects with academic, institutional and culturally focused clients.

Brenda Van Raes CPA CGA Accountant

Brenda received her CGA designation in 1995 and her CPA designation in September 2015. Before joining Cibinel Architecture in 2018, Brenda spent over 26 years at St. Mary’s Academy as an accountant. While studying for her CGA designation, Brenda served on the student council and the CGA Board of Governors as a student representative. Brenda has been active on many CGA and CPA committees.

Desmond Burke MAA Senior Architect

Desmond Burke joined Cibinel Architecture in 2014 as a Senior Architect.  Desmond received his Master of Architecture degree and his Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Manitoba. With over 30 years of professional experience, Desmond is keenly attuned to the needs of projects through all phases, especially building code analysis and construction administration.

Emily Bews M.Arch Architectural Intern

Emily recently graduated with her Master of Architecture from the University of Manitoba and currently is an architectural intern at Cibinel Architecture. She remains connected to the University of Manitoba, partaking in various Faculty of Architecture student mentorship engagements as well as a sessional teaching position in 2017 where she taught Tectonic Precedents, an undergraduate architectural history course.

Julien Combot M.Arch Architectural Intern

Julien joined Cibinel Architecture as an architectural intern in 2017. Julien graduated with his Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba. Julien began work as a Set Designer in the Manitoba film industry and then as a builder with a small design-build office.

Kyle Janzen MAA M.Arch LEED AP Architect

Kyle has been in the practice of Architecture for 10 years. Kyle received his Master of Architecture degree and his Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba. Kyle is a recipient of a Manitoba Arts Creation Grant and a Winnipeg Arts Council Art Individual Grant. In 2014, he was awarded an Architizer A+ Award in Art + Architecture for an installation at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

Lauren joined Cibinel Architecture in 2006 and is an Architect with over 10 years of professional experience. She has worked on a range of projects spanning academic, office, and commercial facilities.

Mallory Briggs MAA Architect

Mallory completed her undergraduate degree at Carleton University and moved to Winnipeg to complete her Master of Architecture at the University of Manitoba. Mallory joined Cibinel Architecture in 2014 and is currently overseeing the construction of 290 Colony, a mixed-use residential high-rise building for the UWCRC2.0.

Matt received his Master of Architecture degree and his Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba. Matt’s design experience includes his integral role on the development of the University of Manitoba Smartpark Innovation Hub, numerous addition and renovation projects, and the Winnipeg River Heritage Museum.

Michael received his Master of Architecture and his Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba. Michael joined Cibinel Architecture as an Architectural Intern in 2018. His professional experience includes design work ranging from installation design to a number of institutional projects. Michael is a sessional instructor teaching visual studies in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba.

Steff received her Master of Architecture degree in 2011 and her Bachelor of Environmental Studies in 2007 from the University of Manitoba. Steff brings over 10 years of experience in all architectural project phases on a range of projects spanning academic, institutional, and cultural facilities.

Trevor Thimm Senior Designer Project Manager

Trevor Thimm joined Cibinel Architecture Ltd. in 2018 as a senior designer and project manager. Before returning to Winnipeg, Trevor was an associate in the Vancouver studio of DIALOG as well as an associate at Moshe Safdie and Associates in Boston. Trevor holds degrees in environmental design and architecture from both Dalhousie University and the University of Manitoba and has over 18 years of international experience.
