Solara Flats, at 308 Colony Street, is a 21-storey high-rise, centrally located in downtown Winnipeg. It is designed as a socially inclusive, mixed-income, mixed-use residential building with 214 apartment units and two commercial spaces on the ground floor. The apartments range from studio to two-bedroom units. This innovative project is designed to feature Zero Carbon emissions. Part of the growing vibrant neighbourhood on Colony Street, it is a project of UWCRC 2.0.
Of the 214 new units at 308 Colony Street, 86 will be set aside for affordable housing including 38 studio and 48 one-bedroom apartments. Just over 20 per cent of all suites will be barrier-free or barrier-free-adaptable, with fully accessible common areas, including an outdoor terrace, lounge, and laundry facilities. Because the building is close to completion, virtual tours of the suites are now available on the Solar Flats website.
It was the mechanical systems by Epp Siepman Engineering and the Mitrex solar technology that helped Solara Flats achieve CAGBC Zero Carbon Building-Design v3 certification.
