BU Health Studies.
The Health Studies Building expansion allows the integration of First Nations and Aboriginal Counselling Programs, BU Health Studies, and the University of Manitoba Nursing Program.
In providing a new home for the First Nations and Aboriginal Counselling Program, the new building creates an opportunity to express the identity as well as the integration of the First Nations in the Brandon University campus.
The building brings together natural materials such as wood and stone, with high-tech materials such as glass and metal, to form a unique composition and shape that breaks away from the rigid orthogonal grid of the campus.
This new facility enhances and improves upon the existing circulation patterns of the campus.
Adjacent existing buildings are linked with a second floor walkway that also serves to extend the central exterior passage as a pedestrian “spine” to knit the campus together.
This project was undertaken by Corbett Cibinel Architects.
